Looking for an unforgettable cycling adventure in Italy? Join us for this unique point to point bike tour in Italy that will see us cycle along the Via Francigena, the historic route used for centuries by pilgrims traveling to Rome. During this exciting cycling trip between Tuscany and Lazio, we’ll pedal along some of the most beautiful routes and see picturesque hills and valleys which define a landscape of unique natural beauty and architecture. We’ll discover the best of Tuscany and Lazio in all their aspects, thanks to a combination of history, nature and local traditions. We will taste delicious traditional dishes and sip stunning wines, discovering the difference between these two wonderful regions. During this point to point cycling tour you will be fully supported by our expert staff and you will have all the time you need to relax and recharge in stunning settings.
Our staff will meet you at Pisa or Florence Airport and will accompany you to your hotel in Lucca. In the afternoon we‘ll be ready for our bike tune-up and a first warm up ride, also known as “sgambatella” in Italian slang, to prepare our legs for the days to come. From Lucca down-town, we will reach some of the most beautiful hills in a few minutes, surrounded by age-old olive groves and vineyards. After a refreshing aperitivo in one of the nicest local enotecas we will toast to the amazing week ahead before having dinner in one of the finest restaurants in Lucca.

This morning we’ll set off to our first destination, San Gimignano. The first part of our route is pretty flat before we take on some gentle slopes heading towards San Miniato, a town made famous for its wine and white truffles. We’ll stop for lunch and we’ll savour flavour local wines and taste the delicious white truffles that have made this town famous. After lunch we will approach the Val D’Elsa cycling along the Via Francigena that will take us to San Gimignano, a medieval town where we will admire the beautiful La Rocca di Montestaffoli and the Torre Grossa. You will have time to relax before being ready for a traditional dinner.

After relishing our breakfast, we will set off for our next destination Siena, cycling along some ups and downs. The first uphill of the day will be the one that brings us up to Colle Val d’Elsa and Strove, a small village which was built in the 6th-century. After a brief stop to regenerate we will cycle along the via Francigena, passing through the amazing historical hamlet of Monteriggioni where we’ll stop for a light lunch, until we reach the Cassia, which we will cycle along to reach Siena. In the afternoon we will have time to relax and discover Siena before dinner.

A great breakfast will prepare us for a challenging yet wonderful ride. The beauty of the views during this ride are amazing. While cycling towards San Quirico, we will take a minute to stop and admire the skyline of Siena looming on the hills. Passed Buonconvento an uphill stretch begins. The second part of this ride will see us enter the wine paradise, Montalicino and Val d’Orcia, where we’ll cycle along kilometres of gravel roads, surrounded by vineyards. Once we arrive in San Quirico, welcoming us with its rolling hills, we will have some time on our own before re-grouping for dinner.

This morning we’ll be ready to explore the enchanting area of Val’d’Orcia, heading towards Bagno Vignoni. From Bagno Vignoni an asphalted road and long uphill stretch lead us to Radicofani. Once arrived in Radicofani we will cross a marvellous landscape, descending towards Val di Paglia. Once we reach Pitigliano, Bolsena will be just a few kilometres away. After a brief downhill road towards Acquapendente, followed by San Lorenzo Nuovo, our eyes will be mesmerised by the view of the Bolsena Lake. Then off to our hotel in the beautiful town of Bolsena where we will relax before indulging in a gourmet dinner.

Today we are off to Sutri, famous for its marvellous archaeological site on the hill opposite the town. After a brief cycle on the famous Via Cassia road heading towards Montefiascone we will rediscover the Via Francigena road, cycling in the middle of fields of flowers. The ancient paving stretch after Montefiascone will be one of the highlights of the day. We will cycle along this ancient road until we reach Viterbo. The path from Viterbo to Sutri alternates ups and downs through cultivated lands and woods, mostly along asphalted roads. We will enjoy dinner at our favourite restaurant in the nice square of Sutri.

The first part of the ride will see us cycle across the beautiful countryside, passing by Monterosi and Monte Gelato, before entering the Veio Park. A panoramic unpaved road will lead us to Formello. The last stretch of the Via Francigena will see us cycling through the green countryside of Lazio, to later continue for a short stretch along secondary roads that cross the outskirts of Rome before reaching the beautiful cycle path along the River Tevere. This will allow us to safely enter the Vatican City, Rome. After visiting the amazing Piazza San Pietro we’ll reach our hotel where we will have time to relax before a fantastic dinner at Monteverde Vecchio.
