Over this seven day bike tour in Tuscany, we’ll ride together through the hills around Lucca, surrounded by an ocean of olive trees, vineyards, oak and cypress groves and wild forests. We’ll introduce you to the most beautiful and evocative hamlets in the area and we will lead you through the national park of the Apuan Alps.
We will be treated to fantastic local food and wine at our favourite trattorias and at the finest restaurants in Lucca. Our local bi-lingual expert crew will guide you along routes where we will be taken aback at some of the most hidden artistic treasures in the area. You will have all the time you need to relax and recharge with a professional soothing post-ride massage.
Our staff will meet you at Pisa International Airport and will accompany you to your hotel in Lucca. After a light lunch we‘ll be ready for our bike tune-up and a first warm up ride, also known as “sgambatella” in Italian slang, to prepare our legs for the days to come. From Lucca down-town, we will reach some of the most beautiful hills in a few minutes, surrounded by age-old olive groves and vineyards. After a refreshing aperitivo in one of the nicest local enotecas we will toast to the amazing week ahead. We will go back to the hotel and get ready for dinner in one of the finest restaurants in Lucca.

After a rich Italian breakfast, we ‘ll be ready for our ride. We’ll guide you through very nice areas before facing the ascent towards the Monte Serra. This is a serious climb, about 8 km long with an average gradient of 6%, that we will tackle at the right pace enjoying the wonderful landscapes we will pass through. Once on top, we will stop for a while to take pictures and to enjoy the beautiful view of Pisa and its famous leaning tower. Then we’ll go down through Calci and Nozzano Castello. We will continue pedalling for another 20 km before climbing the last gentle ascent 3,5 km long up to the wonderful Pieve S. Stefano which is immersed in ancient olive groves. Once in Lucca you will have some time to go sightseeing or to relax before dinner.

After a nourishing breakfast, we’ll set off on tranquil roads through green forests and beautiful valleys to the ancient village of Fiano from where we will admire a beautiful view of the sea. Then a gradual climb will bring us to Passo Sella in the middle of the extraordinary national park of the Apuan Alps. We’ll have a well-deserved lunch in San Rocco, a tiny Medieval hamlet, where we will be treated to a homemade lunch before we hop on our bikes again and ride downhill. We will meet some gentle ascents and smooth descents known as “mangia e bevi” in Italian slang, passing through Turrite Cava. Then we’ll ride the rest of the way along the Serchio river where we’ll be puzzled at the sight of Ponte del Diavolo. Once back to our hotel we’ll have time to relax. Before dinner we will take you to discover an ancient winery to taste fantastic local wines.

Greet the day over breakfast, then we will get ready to pedal along beautiful routes past fabulous ancient villas before challenging ourselves with a gradual climb. We will reach Matraia where we will stop for an illuminating glimpse at its famous Roman-Catholic church and take some pictures. We’ll continue riding across stunning countryside through olive groves and vineyards to Collodi and to Montecarlo, a Medieval beautiful little hamlet, which is home to many winemakers, from where we will enjoy a breath-taking view of the valley. Montecarlo is crossed by the Wine and olive Oil street of Lucca which offers a fantastic food and wine tour which takes in visiting wine cellars and tasting local products. Then, ride back to Lucca. Do not forget to visit the oldest pastry shop in town before getting ready for dinner.

Cycling: distance 75 km, elevation 600 meters
We will leave from Lucca passing through an amazing countryside and after a short gradual climb we’ll stop to admire the breath-taking view of Massaciuccoli and the Versilia coast. The composer Giacomo Puccini lived nearby and often went hunting around the lake and on a hill with a stunning view of the sea. We will ride downhill and pedal some kilometres flat before the gentle climb of Monte Pitoro. After this descent we’ll find our third climb 6.5 km long at 7% passing through Gombitelli, a tiny Medieval hamlet where we will come across the remnants of its famous castle and San Michele church. Here we will stop for a cyclist-friendly lunch. After a long slope we’ll pedal along the Serchio’s Valley before reaching Lucca where we will enjoy a well-deserved dinner.

Cycling: distance 80 km, elevation 600 meters
After a typical Italian breakfast, we will hop on our bikes to pedal from the region’s interior to the Mediterranean sea. We will first ride along beautiful flat roads in an idyllic landscape through the amazing Freddana valley. After a gentle climb at 3% which leads to Monte Magno, we’ll go downhill to Camaiore before riding on the flat to Pietrasanta, known for its marble and bronze workshops, artists and monuments. Here we’ll start climbing up a challenging climb to Capriglia, a pretty little village where we’ll soak up the impressive vistas of the endless sea and of the Ligurian Gulf. We’ll keep pedalling along a thrilling descent which offers infinite views of the coast heading back to Pietrasanta where our reward is a traditional homemade lunch with local delicacies. Cycling along the coastline passing through Viareggio we’ll get back to Lucca where we will have the opportunity to relax before dinner.
